WVGA Game review of Totem Star Lite
A great Windows Phone game can be hard to find these days. The one reviewed today though is a real gem, and best of all it's completely free. Totem Star Lite is a plain but fun puzzle game for the Windows Mobile platform. Totem Star Lite does it’s thing perfectly on the WVGA devices, and as an enthusiastic gamer who loves the new WVGA devices, and games that work on these phones I just had to do a review of this puzzle game.
The game itself is available for free via the developer website – Touch Dimensions. Where you can find it as a .cab file to install on your phone. The cab file can be either downloaded directly to your mobile phone or copied over through your operating system with Active Sync or Bluetooth. This WVGA game requires that you have Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 installed on your Windows Mobile Smartphone device. You can install it by searching around in the search engines and the Microsoft site.
This WVGA Games that used to be known as
“Dream Catcher Lite” but for unknown reason was later renamed to Totem Star. In
this game you lead the destiny of your fellow tribesmen through the stars or so
say the creators of the game. The game is set in the Native American desert
sunset. The goal of the game is to draw patterns around stars of similar color
or shape. You can also make combination in as the authors say – ‘an infinite
variety of patterns’ which in the real world will most likely be quite finite.
But there are a lot of combinations possible and a lot to be found out in the game
play.
Totem Star Lite does not have a steep
learning curve at all, and you will find out soon that the game is much deeper
as it appears to be from the start. The goal of the game is to make certain
combinations from the stars that appear in the nightly heavens. The patterns
can be found in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just below a totem pole
that you have to fill up to have your fellow tribesmen create more structures,
which results into a new goal and a higher score.
When you need to make certain combinations you can force the color star to appear in the game area by making a certain combination to force a certain color to spawn. The combinations you can make in the game can be found on Touch Dimensions website which you can find with Google.
The game play is fun, and keeps you
entertained for quite some time. The background tunes are is very nice and the
entire atmosphere of the game is just perfect. Though these days it’s all about
finger friendliness of applications and games this one actually plays better
with the stylus. The patterns you have to draw can be quite small and thus your
finger can be in the way. The game is fine to play with your finger if you are
not that worried about getting the best highscore that while playing with a
finger. In the options menu of the game you can view your current best score
and toggle between music/sound disabled or enabled. Other then that it’s just a
great entertaining WVGA game that works on all devices it was tested on, VGA
and more. Be sure to try this gem of a game, which on top of it all is free.
Review of Strategy Game - Tower Defense Windows Mobile
Nearly everyone knows what a tower defense game is, they have always entertained people greatly with good replay value and strategy. And since a week or so there is an amazing version of tower defense that works perfectly on your windows mobile WVGA/VGA device. If you don't already know what a tower defense game is, enemies spawn on your screen that have to go through a map towards your base and damage it. The enemies can be fend of by placing towers on the map that has to kill them before they reach your base. Tower defense is one of the most fun games you can find on the Windows Mobile platform. When you play the game, gradually enemies start walking from one side of the map to the other trying to reach your base. When the enemies reach your home base they cause damage to your building. When 20 enemies land in your base you have lost the battle and have failed has a supreme commander of your base' defense. You must place your towers wisely in the way of the enemies to your base. In the case of this new Windows Mobile Tower Defense game from Color Stone Ltd you have a total of 6 different towers that you can plant down to defend your base. The different towers do different types of damage to the enemies. On of the down sides of the game is that it's not described anywhere what the towers actually do, So over time you learn what are the best combinations and you can act on that It's a shame because it could have been described in a simple help page in the menu.
As you kill enemies with your mix of towers you gain more money, with this money you can either buy new towers or upgrade the towers you already have. Towers can be upgraded twice and as you do they become bigger and more bad ass, think of bigger guns, more guns, bigger flame thrower and such things.
The game features 2 levels that you can play and they both bring different type of strategy to this windows mobile game. Tower Defense features 3 difficult levels where easy is a good one to start out with. In the options menu you can select music/sound effects and there is a possibility to view your high score. Sadly there is no option to save your game to other slots, there is only one that the game uses when you wish to resume an earlier played game. If you decide to start a new game you cannot resume the game you played before that.
This game is one of the best and most fun games featured on the newer WVGA/VGA Windows Mobile devices you can find. If you have always enjoyed Tower Defense games you should definitely get it, it is one of the better games that have ever graced the Windows Mobile game platform. There are little things that aren’t perfect about this game, like the missing save option and the unclear tower functions. But these little things do not take away from the fun of the game and it gets a 8.5 out of 10 easy.
